A local company approached us asking for assistance with their Disaster Recovery plan and the recommendations of taking full advantage of cloud technologies. We discussed various elements of their DR plan including various scenarios to see if implementing Microsoft 365 would satisfy their requirements.
We detailed out a plan of action on how this would address concerns over access to emails, files and still being able to communicate with their clients in the event of an actual disaster recovery situation. Their current setup consisted of a file server, IMAP setup for emails and no central repository for backups.
We implemented the Microsoft 365 solution, this took care of emails that also had calendar, contacts and mailbox sharing. Files where ported to Teams/Sharepoint to allow users to access documents from any device and location. Furthermore end user files where later ported to OneDrive (similar to Dropbox). Extended solutions such as backup, antivirus and patch management where later adopted to ensure full security compliance.
Identified Issues
IMAP Offered no calendar or contact sharing features
Major influx of malicious emails with no protection
No facility to allow users to work remotely
No offsite backups or versioning in place
Emailing files to each other to share files
Implemented Solution
Implemented Microsoft 365 Business Premium
Company data and emails ported to Microsoft 365
Personal files ported to OneDrive
Cloud backup enforced
Security policies enforced to protect against data loss
Outcome
The client now operates on the full Microsoft solution with the added benefits of Business Premium to further enhance security. They are now able to collaborate on documents, share information securely and work more efficiently.
